This is a replacement, which arrived quickly and without hassle. Much appreciated. First one was all over the place, so I returned it. This one was pegged at 120° when I got it out of my mailbox. Brought it inside where it quickly matched my indoor temp, so I believe it’s quite accurate. Mounted it outside under the eave and by a window and it went to 105°, although the Weather Channel says it’s only 99°. I have no idea if the WC has instruments anywhere near my house or if they are nearer the lake, river and COE dam, (1-1/4 miles away) where temps are generally cooler, or if they interpolate the temp numbers from larger nearby communities. In any case, I’m happy with the seller and the thermometer is “close enough for govt work”, as folks say. I’m calling it a keeper.I set this up outside my window at a location which is sometimes in the sun, sometimes in shade. It worked well enough for about a year, but now only the needle won't move below 60°F or above 80°F.Other than the metal piece that holds it ( which is a bit flimsy), it is a good working piece. Installed quickly and I can read it from inside. The top post that should fit into the bracket did not. I had to shave it thinner, which was bothersome. Since I have new window and door frames made of metal, i did not want to screw this thermometer in with the enclosed screws. I used a heavy duty two sided mounting tape. (I'll see how long that lasts in Upper NY State weather.) Since the frames are of good quality and thick, I had trouble mounting this unit where I could easily see it through the window. The bracket didn't extend out far enough for my needs. That's not so much of a defect of the thermometer, but it's a problem for me. If it weren't for my specific situation, I would give this a higher rating. Accuracy? The instructions said not to hand it in direct sunlight, so it is in the shade of the eves. Weather App states 86 degrees. Thermometer reads 82 degrees. That's probably accurate enough.I was feeling cheap and did not want to get yet another digital thermometer. This was inexpensive but it's not as good. I can only read it to about ±2 degrees. It goes down to -60 which is useless where we live (S. California). The mounting bracket was messed up, and I had to file down some plastic to get it to fit the way I wanted (so that I could adjust the angle vertically instead of horizontally). A similar model fell and smashed; I'm sure this one would too. Still, it does the basic job outdoors in the current heat wave. I expect I will have to replace it in a year or two when it gets broken or otherwise fails.Thought it would be bigger like my old one, Easy to mountSeems to be accurate and was easy to install outside on our covered patio, just had to predrill holes for the 2 screws.Excellent outdoor thermometer. Very clear arrow and dial. Biggest plus is an adjusting screw on the back which allows you to calibrate it - very rare for a basic thermometer. Plastic a bit flimsy so it will be interesting to see how it ages. This is a great product for the price. I needed it to replace a broken part of an old weatherstation. Looks good and is fairly accurate.Seems to work well we have had to move it around to get an accurate reading, no direct sunlight. My fault but I did not notice that the centigrade was in small numbers and the Fahrenheit was in large. Could have used it the other way around we are in Canada so everyone talks in Centigrade here.I replaced my fence mounted thermometer with this one. I laughed as I mounted the new one as I noticed the old one was also a Springfield Product and then I turned the new one over to see the Made in China sticker. SON OF A B----! Never knew that!It is 15C or 59F outside right now both thermometers, old and new, read 27C or 82F.Thanks Amazon, more defective products from China, just what we need.Great item, easy to see in the garden.
